Evangalist and Dentist
Jack Meibaum, an American born dentist from Vermont, felt a God given call to work in the Dominican Republic serving as a dentist and missionary. He sold off most of his belongings, packed a few bags and headed to the DR. He established a pay what you can dental clinic outside of Moca in a semi rural area which suffers from unemployment and lack of medical aid. He often doubles as a medic sewing stitches and administering first aid for trauma.
Working in the Dominican Republic leaves much to be desired in way of equipment and resources. In Jack's area the electricity is intermittent at best. It is sporadically turned off to cut costs which the electric company blames on rampant theft. To reliably run the clinic Jack uses a gas generator and air compressor. Despite the many difficulties and expenses Jack manages miraculously to keep the clinic running. His greatest assest in continuing his mission is not money or materials, although he needs both. His greatest assest is his deep empathay and care he has for humanity. As an American in the DR he has been the target for bribes from police and numerous robberies. Being the target of exploitation and abuse has its impact and leaves him frustrated and angry at times. However, he continous, even after physical harm and serious death threats to provide a critical service to the people.
